Potting soil for cypress sempervirens totems

Hi I have bought some cypress sempervirens totems which I would like to plant in large pots.

I've read they need well drained soil. Would John Innes multipurpose compost and horticultural grit be ok? Any other suggestions please?

Thank you.

Hello @sharanshrubs, I would use 50% J.I. No.3 and 50% multipurpose with perhaps a couple of handfulls of horticultural grit. John Innes No.3 has more 'oomph' in it for long term use in pots for shrubs/small trees etc.
