Cucumber stunted growth

I planted 3 cucumber plants in my polytunnel. Of which I'd got 2 decent sized cucumbers, the issue is that the cucumber plant itself was only about 2 foot tall, it looked severely stunted and I'm not 100% sure what could cause this. I'm not convinced I gave it any tomato planter compost which has better nutrients for it. Could that cause the stunting? It gets plenty of heat, watered regularly, no sign of infestation or pests anywhere...... ? Help.

When did you plant it … it’s early for cucumbers to be out in an unheated polytunnel …

Planted it a few weeks ago. It doesn't get lower than 7 or 8 though. I did mine from seed in April.

I sowed mine from seed in April too …

I only started putting them outside for a little while each day to harden them off yesterday … I find cucumbers really need temperatures around 15C ish or they sulk.

It could be the wildly fluctuating temperatures we have been having. They are very temperature sensitive. My cucumbers do not look as happy as they could. I have 2 in the greenhouse and a couple in the conservatory and none are doing as well as usual.

We have been having very chilly weather down here and cucumbers have been in the GH all the time up to a couple of days ago when I started to harden them off outside. Outside night temperatures are only now getting above 10 deg.

It's the cold weather, especially the nights. It isn't just air temp, it's about soil temp too.
Mind you, you've done well to cucumbers on your plants after sowing them just a few weeks ago, what's your secret?
