Are these eggs or something else ?

Asking for a friend who's DiL planted sweet peas, then found these little orange 'eggs' ?
I think slug eggs are white, but wouldn't have been laid on the top of the soil ??

Yes fungi ... transmogrifying the organic matter in the compost into a form accessible by the roots of plants ... it's the third picture of similar fungi we've had in the past few days ... seems to be a lot about this year ... maybe due to new formulations of compost perhaps?

Looks like a Morning Glory has snuck in among the sweet peas  B)

There was a post a day or two ago with exactly the same stuff on the top of the compost.
@Dovefromabove also suggested it's a fungus which is breaking down the compost to provide nutrients for your plant - so they are the good guys :)
