The benefits of an untidy garden.

I inherited ancient  weigela when we moved here. ( the one with the tiny pink sparse flowers). It eventually died of old age. I chopped it down and left the logs where they fell. I just noticed today that most have thrown up shoots, despite the fact that they were lying horizontally.
A lilac shoot has appeared as well. I'm certain it's over ten years since I dug them out.
A mild wet winter last year must have done the trick.

    You just can’t kill those weigela!  I did a similar thing,  then you feel sorry for it and replant a bit.
    My lilac decided to multiply,  there’s shoots everywhere. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    I didnt actually want it dead. It was always the first shrub in the garden to come into leaf and flower and was happy under a large sycamore. 
    In London. Keen but lazy.
