Black of pieris leaves

Does anyone know what this back stuff is on the leaves of my pieris and how I can get rid of it? Thanks

@Ryan180680 Not too easy to tell from photo but looks like sooty mould. You often see it on Camellias at this time of year.

@Ryan180680 If it is only a small area I would just wash it off. You will find a lot of info on line.

It usually wipes off. Doesn't look like there's too big an area, so it shouldn't be too difficult, unless it's only the bit we're seeing of course!   :)

It is sooty mould, you can only get rid of it by cleaning the leaves. it is a mould that grows on the excreta of aphids and other bugs.
How can you lie there and think of England

@Fairygirl that's only a small area. It's over a large part of the plant. Bucket of soapy water and a cloth do?

That should do the trick  :)
Rubber gloves if you're squeamish  ;)
