What the heck are these?!

Hi everyone,

can anyone tell me what these funny bulbous woodlouse (?) type things are on the stems of my young dog rose? They are stuck firm on the stems. Are they a disease? A pest?

I dug out this rose to find a new home for it. Left it in a wheelbarrow for a day or two and came back to find those.

Anyone shed any light?

I agree - I use a stiff nail brush to shift them.

Just don’t try to buy a nail brush for the purpose - I’m not joking, there’s a nationwide shortage.

Alcoholic infused wipes are recommended as well for removing scale insects.

You could always use a toothbrush - but give it a rinse afterwards before using it again 😁
I often get a few on the stems of my blueberries - I just flick them off with a fingernail - then use a a fingernail brush on your fingernails :)
