Bug Infestation on Wisteria - what is it!

Can anyone advise on what these bugs are?  Some branches are totally covered. They have recently infested our wisteria - almost on every branch.  We have 2 large plants (one white and one blue) and both are affected.  They vary in size from 1mm in diameter to around 5mm.

Any help on what these creatures are and what we can do about them.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like wisteria scale.  This article on the RHS website has info and solutions -

  • Many thanks for your reply.  It looks to be Brown Scale from the description on your link.
I had better get to work!

The RHS says "Brown scale and nut scale are generally not damaging on wisteria". I'd be tempted to leave it up to biological control if that was the case.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
