Watering seedlings.

Monty advises using tap water to start off seeds rather than water from a water butt. At what stage in the plant’s growth is it safe to introduce water from garden water butts?

Hello @19carolf and welcome to the forum :)
I'm happy using water from the butts once the plants are sturdy enough to plant out in the veg patch.

Thanks, Dovefromabove. I will wait until my plants have a strong root formation. Just trying to use as little tap water as I can!

I suppose it depends on the seedling,  think of the amount of self seeding flowers in the garden,  they get rain water which is what’s in the water butts.

I think the difference for me is that seedlings in seed trays in a greenhouse or indoors are in a warmer enclosed where bacteria as well as plants thrive ... once plants are outside the conditions are a bit less conducive to soft growth which makes plants susceptible to bacterial infection.
