Carnage in the conifer

I've been happily watching the blackbirds flying in and out of a conifer in my garden feeding their chicks.
Yesterday a magpie flew onto the nest and scoffed all the chicks.  :'(

Yes nature can be brutal but it doesn't help how you feel about the chicks. I feel the same when the sparrow hawks take the birds that I feed. Daft I know but I feel responsible.

    I'm a carnivore, so i suppose i am a hypocrite.
When i feed birds in the garden, i feel like i am responsible for them nesting there.
