Viburnum burkwoodii
A mature specimen had few flowers this Spring. The bark on a few thick branches has turned a dark russett brown colour and appears to be splitting and peeling. On more than one of the stems, -approx girth 2’ -the bark has these characteristics down to ground level.Soil fertility and air flow is good. I have removed some of the affected branches but have now realised that the trouble stems from ground level. Could this be some mushroom fungus? Should I remove the whole’tree’? Would it be advisable not to replant another Viburnum in the same spot? Would welcome sage advice.
