Fixing polycarbonate glazing panels

Hi please could you advise. When using double sided glazing tape to fix polycarbonate glazing panels to greenhouse frame do I still need to attack 'W' spring clips. Also for extra strength does anyone recommend adding wooden batons.

@Fairygirl, did l dream it, or did you have (or still have) a polycarbonate greenhouse?
Can you help at all ?

I had a polycarbonate greenhouse. I used W clips but when it was very windy one of the panels used to blow off. I replaced the clips then OH suggested sticking tape all around the sides. It worked. It wasn't double sided tape though, but it was quite tough.

  • Hi, yes I still have a polycarbonate greenhouse. Unfortunately even in a sheltered place the panels still blow out. I am planning to take out the remaining panels and  put double sided greenhouse glazing tape (5mm x 12mm) around  the frame before putting the panels back in then attaching the original metal 'W' clips. To strengthen it further I wondered about adding thin wooden batons. Was wondering if this is the best way to o do and any advice would be appreciated.

I do @AnniD, but it's just a tiny one, and the panels are fixed into slots [if that makes sense] so it wouldn't be easy to replace them. I think they'd need to be broken, removed, and then new ones would have to be fixed in a different way.

Not much help to you @MargaretElizabeth - sorry.  :/

Tape and clips worked for me, it wasn't sheltered. I think the wooden battens would get in the way when cleaning and they would get green and dirty, like the wooden clothes pegs I left out for the winter. How would you fix them onto an aluminium frame?

  • Hi all, many thanks for your comments. My handyman is planning on making s start on the greenhouse next week. All the remaining panels and clips will be removed and cleaned along with the frame. Then hopefully tape, panels and clips fitted. It was just an after thought for added strength that batons were mentioned but I wasn't sure if it was feasible.
