what (if any) climber for a small container?

I would like to plant something in a tight corner of on my balcony, I would only have room for a tall but narrow pot. Is there a climber I could plant in there which wouldn't suffer from being in a tight (but deep) pot?

There's some nice annual climbers that might suit like Morning Glory, Thunbergia alata (a tender perennial), Nasturtium or even Sweet Peas, assuming your balcony gets some sun and is fairly sheltered.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

  • Thanks! I'll look into those. Balcony is quite sheltered/shady, it's west facing but overlooking woods. Morning Glory sounds very good!

How small a pot are you thinking? :)
  • Probably 25-30 cm across, but tall one
  • Can I by any chance put a clematis in such a pot? I know it's a stretch...

One of the smaller spring-flowering clematis (alpina types) might be OK but I'm not sure that it would be happy for the long term. The annual climbers would give you colour for longer though.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Thunbergia ( black eyed Susan.) Comes in colours from pale yellow to deep red. The red and the rusty orange are my favourites
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I'm trying thunbergia chocolatey red/orange for the first time this year (slugs permitting).

I don't remember having a slug problem with them but they were in containers.
