Galvanised buckets

Hello everyone,
I have two buckets and would like some help with what plants to put into them, I would like ferns but not sure if they would be suitable for the galvanised buckets.
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

They would probably be fine as long as drill drainage holes. Pretty much any container needs to drain. If they are smaller metal buckets placed in full, hot sun, the roots might struggle, but ferns in shade should be fine. The bigger the bucket, the less you have to water.

What size are they @magant11? If they're of reasonable volume, and with the right soil mix, you can certainly have a variety of planting, depending on where you want to site them. Ferns will be fine, as long as you have them in a shady place, although some are very happy in more sun, so it's also a case of choosing the right plant.
Where you're located will also be a factor though. I have some large square galvanised containers [about 18- 20 inches diameter] with Phormiums, and sometimes climbers in them, and they're fine in sun, but it isn't as hot here as many other places.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
