Acer palmatum Hogyoku

This year there is no sign of any growth, a few of the small branches are dead but the rest of the bark is green.  It would normally be in full leaf by now.  I’m not sure if there is anything I can do?

One of my acers has produced leaves on one side.
Another part of the same tree has a couple of big dead branches and another part shows no sign of leafing out, but is still alive.
Sometimes I wonder why I bother!

There's noting you/we can really do other than cross our fingers.
I know mine needs more water - we've had no proper rain this year and none at all this month.
So I'll give mine a soak and see what happens.

If you can post a photo, we may be able come up with other ideas, but, so long as yours is not in need of water, there's not much else to be done.

I think the dry weather is probably a big factor. They need moisture, but decent drainage.
Is it the ground @Jean170 or a pot?

Yes it’s in the ground, I have now given it a good soak and will continue to do so. I will keep my fingers crossed. Thank you

Hopefully it'll come away. It can be difficult in dry areas to keep them happy all the time.
Ironically, it can be easier when they're in pots, because you can keep an eye on them, and also move them into some shade if they're a bit exposed. With most planting, in the ground is better. A regular mulch of bark, or similar, especially after a good downpour, will help too.  :)

You are right about pots getting a regular watering, I’m going on holiday tomorrow for a week so will do what I can before then. I note there is no rain forecast in my area all week! Thanks again for the advise.
