That's probably why they are in my daughter's garden then. We'd pulled up 3 or 4 before I'd remembered to check my postings, but I expect they'll seed themselves again.
@BlueBirder I didn't know that very interesting one for my note book! @Silver surfer Think I would say short lived perennial. It became very woody and then gave up. It was a lovely plant to grow.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
Linaria purpurea is special..it just appears like magic ..uninvited into gardens. Linaria purpurea Canon Went..the pink one is a delight. Below are a few more different species of Linaria.
I have also grown L Dial Park which is a deeper pink. Again short lived, I did have just one seedling but it never came to anything. A friend discovered a white form growing beside a dustbin at a local supermarket. It was a long time ago she could have introduced it but I can't remember. This has been interesting I had no idea there were so many colours. It is a plant that goes so well with so many others.

White one.....It was named Linaria purpurea "Springfield White" years ago. Maybe by Springfield nursery in Wakefield.
It is also home to the toadflax brocade moth which will strip one toadflax to a skeleton and leave the ones right next to it alone. If only slugs and snails behaved in the same sharing way.
I grew the white one from seed one year. They were pretty but didn't last long and didn't produce any seedlings (or maybe they crossed with the purple ones - the purple is probably dominant).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
