ah yes thats what runs riot through the wilder parts, my inclination is to rip it out before it takes hold, but it just seems to be in 2 very neat compact patches in places I would have put new plants. The woundwort usually pops up a bit more spread out and randomly. Edit: will go smell a leaf!
Well its not Hedge Woundwort, just compared some, this has a slightly thicker, white hairy stem compared to the purple nettlelike one on the woundwort. Also has an infinitely more pleasant smell, a bit herby
I actually love the smell of hedge woundwort @GardenerSuze, I think stachys leaves are a bit more rounded? (If I'm right in thinking Betony is stachys?)
@BlueBirder Think I had S Macrantha in my mind but agree leaf not right. I would have thought you might have hedge woundwort else where in the garden. Your photo does look like a cultivated plant
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
@GardenerSuze Yes Ive checked it against some hedge woundwort and its definitely not the same, so Im fairly confident its something Ive planted last year
