These beautiful flowers have sprung up everywhere recently 
does anyone know what they are please :)

    Agree...Lunaria annua...common name Honesty.

    Wow that was quick thank you 
    I’ve seen so much of it everywhere and growing wild I thought it must be a native wildflower that I didn’t know - ive been looking at purple wildflower types trying to find it!

    Probably a garden escapee.
    Flowers can also be white.

    There's also Lunaria varigata, I've recently set seeds that are just germinating. This from RHS website.

    'Alba Variegata' is a self-seeding biennial growing to around 60cm. The heart-shaped leaves have an irregular, white border, the white flowers appear in late spring and early summer, and are followed by flat, circular seedpods. When ripe, the outer covers and seeds fall away, revealing silvery, paper-thin discs

    I was going to come on here to ask the same thing. Someone near me has them growing almost like a hedge behind a low brick wall. They look so pretty.

    One or two always manage to seed inside my greenhouse. I don't mind because the bees always come in to visit them and other plants too.

    It sneaks into all sorts of places - some that are quite unlikely. 
    It always reminds me of my Grandpa, and as children, we loved the little seed cases. 
    I collected some seed last year, so I hope it takes.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    They self-seed well and are stars of the garden at this time of year. This area (in front of Compost Corner) has five different ones - the common one with green leaves and purple flowers, green leaves with white flowers, "annua variegata" variegated with white flowers, "Somerset Marble" purple/variegated foliage with purple flowers, and "Chedglow" dark foliage with purple flowers.

    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
