    Ideal for any would be smart arses. Nothing like a faceful of thorny pyracantha to put them off  ;)

    For a thick hedge it does make sense to move them forward Phil-Robo. Mine is a hedge too that was here when I moved in. It had been allowed to go leggy and was really top heavy so I ruthlessly pruned it back to half the height I wanted it to be and that worked to thicken it up nicely.
