Seedlings

Hi, these Typhonia germinated within days. Should I take them off the heated propagator  now? I stupidly sewed different types of seed in with them. I've read you shouldn't prick out until they have their first true pair of leaves.

I would take them off the heated mat, but they are not ready to be transplanted.

They probably didn't need any extra heat. At this time of year, most windowsills [if that's where you have them] are warm enough for germinating seed. It's not always beneficial if they germinate too quickly, because they shoot up and get leggy before there's enough root.
All seedlings need a proper pair of leaves before potting on.
It's always difficult if you have different seeds in together, especially if they have differing requirements   :)

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Okay thanks for your help. The other seeds I have in there I think need the heat. Should I start them off again jut on the window sill?

It'll depend on the seed/plant as to what you do, but if they need warmth just leave them on the windowsill.
If you think they need more than that then use your mat, but switch it off as soon as seedlings appear.  :)

  • Okay thank you. The other seeds in there need the heat. So might have to sacrifice the Typhonia. 😭

If you have more seed, then you can sow more of them.
Alternatively, you could keep the heat on for a little while, and if more leaves appear on your Tithonia seedlings [I'm assuming you meant that not Typhonia ;)] you might be able to get them out and potted before they get too leggy. Probably nothing to lose  :)
