What's wrong with my anemone hadspen abundance?

Last year I acquired two anemone plants - hadspen abundance and September charm. September charm flowered beautifully and had really healthy foliage, but hadspen abundance didn't flower at all and the foliage was coated in a sticky substance (the leaves looked weirdly shiny) and went dark and crispy.

This year, it's doing the same thing - September charm is looking super healthy with great foliage but hadspen abundance is not. Pics attached.

Any thoughts or advice would be most welcome! Thanks in advance.

I get manky foliage on a few of mine. I just remove it. It doesn't seem to affect their growth  :)
If it's shiny, and/or sticky, it could be from greenfly. Is it near something which attracts them?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

@Fairygirl thanks - that's reassuring. It's got plenty of new growth coming, so hopefully there will be some flowers this year too.

I've just been out to check for greenfly and I can't see any signs except the slightly sticky leaves. I have had some aphids on my acer (I got an acer!) and also on my Veronica gentianoides, and weirdly, I found two on a saxifrage flower this morning, but I haven't seen any on the anemones. I'll keep an eye out though.

Agree Japanese Anemones can have some yukky leaves I just cut them off. They can suffer from virus which is another story as they say. Just remove them. Think the warm April weather is the cause of your aphids.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
