    @raisingirl thanks!

    @Plantminded, I am only half filling it, the bottom is filled with breeze blocks so it's probably less than half full. I've also lined it with polystyrene to prevent overheating. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
    I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

    Great, they'll be fine with those additions!  Enjoy your herbs!

    Sage can make a nice bushy plant and the purple leaved form is quite decorative. Mine grows on top of a south facing dry stone wall and hangs over the front. Could look nice in your planter and add some height.

    So I'm just heading off to pick up some sage, lemon verbena and lemon thyme but I was wondering if there are any flowers, especially any creeping type I could plants at the front to hang over the edge that like the same conditions? Something to add a little colour

    the creeping thymes will fall down the front, or alpine strawberries might or something like aubretia will be happy there if you don't mind it being non-edible

    Either an ivy leaved pelargonium or a dwarf variety of a nasturtium like Princess of India (edible leaves and flowers) would add colour.

    Thank you both! I think I'll give the alpine strawberries a go!
