When will my lupins and delphiniums return?

I can see no sign yet of lupins and delphiniums that I planted last year, and flowered well. When will I see signs of life? I live in the South West.

    Make sure the shoots are not being eaten by slugs as they emerge.

    Id be worried if your delphiniums aren't showing, I'm in the south east and mine are already around 2ft tall. As @B3 says, it might be they are being eaten? Or maybe they died over winter. Not sure about Lupins, I gave up on them as they got munched everytime I tried to grow them!

    They really should be up by now.
    I am in the North and Lupins are about 2 foot tall and Delphiniums 1 foot.
    Sorry to say, you have probably lost them.

    I don't grow delphiniums but the lupins are well up, and I would expect in the South they'd be even further along. It doesn't sound hopeful :(

    Same here, delphiniums and lupins are up, delphinium around two feet tall.

    I gave up on them a long time ago - slug magnets, both of them.
    Plenty of easier plants to grow  :)

    Unfortunately, I think you've had it with those @sarahlouisehot, so maybe worth looking for something to replace them.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Where are my delphiniums? is a commonly asked question at this time of year. It is probably the tiny black slugs that eat them under the soil.
    As @Fairygirl says an opportunity to grow something new. Sometimes we have to move on no point trying the same thing over and over a waste of money, also avoids future disappointment.
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Yeah my lupins are a good foot tall, in the past I've lost them I think due to excessive wet. Delphiniums either got chomped or didn't hold up as my border is quite exposed, they are very nice though so may give them a shot elsewhere.

    My delphiniums are nearly a metre tall. The lupins vanished into the aether as they always do. *dramatic sigh*
