What’s this weed?

Took photos of this weed spreading through the garden in September last year. Any ideas what it is?

It looks like willowherb. The seeds spread everywhere so best to pull it up or it will take over your beds.

    Yeah willowherb.

If that was last September you’ve probably got a lot more to come this year.

I wish I had a pound for every seedling I pulled out last summer and autumn.
  • Oh perfect, thank you. That looks like just it. Has been bothering me for half a year! We were having a large patio laid and couldn’t get to it until it had gone fluffy like this. Drove me crazy!
  • Oh dear @TheGreenMan, was worried that was going to be the case. It’s our first house and first garden. So much to do out there and the list grows quicker than I can learn!

You’ll soon learn to recognise the Willowherb seedlings 🥴. Don’t worry … we all have to start somewhere 😊

They can also be perennial @adrienne_hall , just to annoy you even more,  and look slightly different from the growth on the annual, so be vigilant. The only good thing is that they're easy to pull out, or you can hoe them if that's easier.
You'll definitely have more, so keep an eye out. If you're struggling to get them all out, at least take the flowers off when you see them. They can produce 100,000 seeds on a mature plant  ;)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    Snap!

We’ve also got bittercress and groundsel to contend with. 😂

It’s a fight I may never win but it’ll keep me fit either way!
