Ordering plants from abroad

What's the feeling about ordering plants from abroad? Contemplating putting an order in to Farmer Gravy, based in the Netherlands, and seeing all the chaos with the lorry trackbacks I'm beginning to wonder.

I had an order arrive last week, it was dispatched on the 1st and arrived on either the 6th or 7th? Probably worth noting that I placed the order on the 16th of march, so they do take a couple of weeks to dispatch
  • I had an order arrive from them at the end of March and I have another waiting to be dispatched that I ordered a week ago. If you do order now it will be 1-2 weeks before they send them/you get them so things may of calmed down by then. They package them well too so should survive any small delays anyway.

Welcome to the forum @Al.K.Miller -- I like your user name!
My experience with an order from Farmer Gracy echoes the others -- and good packaging.

I've used FG in the past. I didn't realise it wasn't in the UK
  • Thank you so much. And thanks for overlooking my mis-spellings! I think I will go ahead with my order. First time on here and great being part of such a great forum.

Farmer Gracy is very good, but you can't factor in any problems with transport, so it depends on how you feel about it.
If you're concerned, there are plenty of good suppliers in the UK, unless you're after something you can't get elsewhere.  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Dealt with Farmer Gracy on a regular basis for some time never had any problems and when I had a bulb that failed they replaced no bother.

I’ve used Farmer Gracy several times, they are based  in the Netherlands even though the website has uk in its address. Always pleased with them, packaging excellent, plants v good. There is usually a 10% discount from next order too. It can be 7-10days from dispatch before orders arrive but it doesn’t seem to affect quality of plants.
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.

Just a word of caution on post from the Netherlands. My OH had some training material sent over from his company's office in the Netherlands (printed booklets, A4 size, about an inch thick in total). Posted 14th February, arrived 8th April. Maybe plants are labelled accordingly and get priority treatment, but it can take a while.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
