My hydrangeas are being eaten!

Something is eating the shoots and leaves of two young hydrangea plants I have bought. It’s not slugs or snails or anything similar. We don’t have deer. The other morning I found the pot pushed over (pot about 12 inches high).
Badger? Hedgehog? Cats?

Any chance you could post a photo of the damage please?  The pot being pushed over might not be connected to the leaf damage.

How do you know it's not slugs? All sorts of things will knock the pot over, badgers, foxes, cats.

Ours have been hit very badly with the last frosts. The leaves are burnt out.
Could this be what has happened to yours?

It won't be hedgehogs, either pushing over or eating, unless it's a tiny pot and a very large hedgehog.  :)
Any of the animals mentioned could knock it over, but very few of those, probably none, would eat them. Slugs/snails would probably have a go if they were lying around though.

It's very odd if woody shoots are being eaten though. Rabbits are more likely than any of the others if that's the case.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
