While not knowing this species or variety, my first thought on seeing the flower buds was of Senecio! I wonder how closely they’re related, because the couple of Ligularias I’ve grown so far didn’t have particularly Senecio-like buds.

I must admit I had the help of Mr. Google. I thought the leaves and buds looked Ligularia-ish so I wondered if there was one that had the flowers in clusters rather than the usual spikes. Can't grow them here though, the soil isn't damp enough.

Well done. I am delighted to get the correct name. I hate having unnamed pics. The Ligularia x yoshizoeana 'Palmatiloba' seen at St Andrews botanical gardens,East coast of Scotland. was just in the herbaceous border. It is rather a dry area...certainly not damp.

I can now add a label to my pics.
RHS say 1 m tall...My memory is of a real giant.
