I thought mine was a weedy spiny shrub so I tried to dig it out and cut it to the ground but it grew back. Still spiny but no flowers, maybe I’ll have to let it grow but it’s quite low growing.
  • I can’t remember how well I prepped the site. It’s actually in gravel but I probably would have dug down to soil and also put in some compost. The wall is 17th century sandstone and we are quite clay-rich round here so very little in the way of foundations. My neighbour’s house would have been built around the same time so I’m assuming similar conditions as theirs is under the gravel.

It does depend on the aftercare too. Anything close to a wall will be drier, but if it's established and growing, then it should be fine. If it's a young plant, it takes a while for the root system to establish, and the flowers are the last thing to appear in numbers - same as most flowering shrubs. Shrubs  aren't as quick as perennials or climbers.
You'll just have to be patient   ;)

Can't help re photos on a phone, but in general, if they're smaller, they load better. Around 1MB is ideal.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
