Lawns care - grass with black seed heads

Hi, I’ve just moved into a new house and previously enjoyed keeping my lawns in tip top shape. The lawn at the new place needs some work removing weeds which is all doable. However it also has a type of grass growing in patches here and there that doesn’t look like any grass I’ve ever seen. It has long fast growing shoots with black seed heads/flowers on. This grass is broad leaved and is not the most attractive and some of these have purple ends to the blades. Any clues as to what this could be and how to eradicate?  Pictures below:

    I think it's a Carex, Sedge, I can't remember which species that is. Usually associated with poor drainage. Probably won't be so noticeable once the mowing season gets under way.
