I read part of a research paper about metaldehyde (which is toxic to humans too) a while back as I was wondering if it is absorbed by plants that we eat - it is absorbed by plants and takes about 12 days to break down within the plant into 2 harmless compounds.
Ferric phosphate breaks down in the soil to a plant food.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

I have only used slug pellets once never again. Looked out of the window to see a Song Thrush on the lawn. I thought what right do I have to put that bird's life at risk.
Now I avoid those plants that slugs love and accept that a few leaves are eaten. Gardening should be fun not a stress.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
