Tough Weed

Hi,

I've recently moved house and in my garden there's a corner that's been taken over by this plant/weed.  Using a plant identifier app its saying the most likely result is Meadowsweet but I'm not sure.  It's tall and very tough - normal shears are struggling to cut through.  Do you know what this is and what the most effective method is to remove it?

    It isn't meadow sweet. It's that shrub that is the very devil to dig out, has tiny white flowers and takes over a large area if it isn't stopped. Blimey, I've got a mental block here. I have one in the verge outside my gate and I watch it like a hawk.

    It's a shrub, woody. Meadowsweet is an herbaceous perennial, dies back to the ground every winter. It Might be one of the Spiraeas but I don't grow them so can't say for certain. I fear much digging/mattocking may be the only way to get rid of them

    my guess is Spriaea douglasii

    Yes that's it spirea. Not sure if it's the white or pink one.

    Yes that's what I thought. I had to dig a load of it out a few years ago and it was far from easy. Come to think of it I had to go in for a hernia operation a short while afterwards  :|
