@JennyJ it is definitely a Philadelphus as I bought it from Kiftsgate Garden last year and saw the leaves. It lost some branches over winter but had kept the shape. Until 2 weeks ago when it looked over nicht like as it is now. Either my cat walked through it or there is nasty worm that cuts the branches. I leave it as it is and either it comes through or not.
The other Philadelphus at the garden centre had a similar cut back but not as worse as my one.
The quality of my pictures isn’t that. The green around are french lavender leftovers and the pink is cherry blossoms.

    I my garden.

It was @Fairygirl wot said it, not me :D.
To be honest I can't tell one way or the other from the philadelphus picture, but for me they're always one of the later shrubs to come into leaf in the spring.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
