Photinia looks sick

My photinia does not look well, very little new growth, and very bare branches. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

    Unfortunately, they often look like that, especially if you're in a colder, wetter area, or it's in an exposed site. They need warmer, more sheltered sites, and enough moisture to keep them healthy, but reasonably well drained soil. 
    If you have a photo, that would help though  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
