I don't carry passengers. If it doesn't earn its keep: it's gone.

But the problem might be you not it.

Depends, posted on a different place just now,we inherited a white scented azalea
It didn't flower for years. We had it in our last garden,it suddenly flowered after I don't know how many years. We moved it here in a pot, left it in there several years,it's now in the ground and flowers. But it would cost a huge amount to replace, and we've had it 30 years

Doesn't really matter - "you" may be the problem but if "you" are the gardener then no point wasting time and effort  ;)

Usually only once but I loved winter flowering Daphne and they are expensive, still tried over 8 plants in last 7 years. Also tried over 12 plants of sarcococoa. Different locations in garden, then in pots with different mediums etc etc. They just didn't thrive and eventually died.

I have settled with summer Daphne plants and winter honeysuckles.

If you but the three, you could plant them in different places to see what they prefer. Sometimes plants don't like where they are "supposed" to like.
East Dorset, new (to me) rather neglected garden.

Are you sure they are dead? They are quite good at taking a knock, sulking for a bit and reappearing.

Alstroemeria tend to rot if the drainage isn't adequate , they grow tubers like dahlias so you'll know if they are gone are not if you dig them up .

Depends on the plant its usually something I shouldn't be trying to grow here anyway that fails , I am on my 3rd and last attempt ( I say that now ) with Eremurus I am so desperate to see the glowing spires I keep trying , first attempt rotted away - 2nd doesn't want to flower so assume it need more light and my 3rd ones planted last autumn are still alive so hopefully this year.

But that's what learning is for. Research, experiment, discussion.

Twice. Learn from the first error(s).

If it fails the second time then it’s definitely on me.

@Perki and all thanks for your insights. *If* I try again (and, if I see one blooming at the garden centre this summer, it's probable😁), I will pot them up in different, hopefully more sheltered location and use plenty of gravel underneath and cross my fingers. SueAtoo, that's also a clever idea.

It's sweet and quite touching how determined some of us are to grow particular plants. Perhaps this will be the year they behave themselves for you!
