Clematis

My clematis alpine Pamela Jackman is flowering well but my clematis macropetala Markham’s Pink seems to be struggling(see photos). Any advice please?

Is it a bit congested? It looks as if it's a bit strangled where it is too.
I find the macropetalas are a bit later than the alpinas though, so perhaps it's just getting going.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks Fairygirl.  It is often later but this year it certainly looks a bit tired despite feed and water.  Perhaps I need to prune it after flowering as I've been a bit reluctant in the past in case I chop the wrong bits.

They're no problem to prune if they're outliving the space they're in.  :)
It'll benefit from a bit of a tidy up, but they can cover a decent sized area if given room.
They also don't need much in the way of food and water, which is what makes them easier than the larger flowered types. A bit of organic matter round the base [without burying it] is plenty for them.
I don't think mine have ever been fed apart from when first planted    :)
