cutting back ferns and grasses

Should I be cutting down the old,dead ferns and my zebra grass now? I have different fern types.

    I think basically yes. I would remove dead fern leaves any time during the winter, and for evergreen types, remove the old leaves when new ones are starting to unfurl. As for the Miscanthus, yes cut down old stems, try and take care not to cut new growth - if you do this earlier it is easy to just cut to the ground without worrying about new growth but on the other hand it's nice to enjoy the dried stems and seedheads for a bit longer... I did mine about a week ago.
