    When it works, garlic's great. When it doesn't, it's usually down to the weather. It does seem particularly sensitive to the weather

  • Yes. Also temperature. Garlic also seems to need a spell of good cold weather to keep it happy.
    I have tried growing garlic in the ground in this garden with very poor, like no results, and the only way it will grow into anything like bulbs of garlic, is in large pots. I have 2 varieties this year which at the moment look quite promising.
    I have yet to unravel the difference between soft neck and hard neck garlic and whether they need different growing conditions etc.
  • We also have garlic growing (planted last month) for the first time, my fiancé's top pick of things to try growing. I'm not feeling too confident having read these comments though...  :D

    Great idea @Fairygirl Regarding making a small space for the children to use.
