I have read that the difference between builders' sand and sharp sand is the shape of the grains. Builders' sand has rounded grains to enable it to be mixed with other materials whereas sharp sand has sharp angled grains like grit.
I don't know where I read it and I am no expert. Perhaps some knowledgeable person can confirm or otherwise.

Delighted you like the leptospernum!  Enjoy!  Mine are just budding at the moment.
The strulch is good too, I saw it visiting an open garden and am trying it out, so far its supressing weeds and protecting plants over winter nicely, smells like sweet hay too.

Can vouch I use a bag of sand the builders left from the patio and it works fine

That's great stuff, it's literally patio sand or something, just seen it, for some reason it was left in a tiny play shed which my son no uses for balls of every description!

Is leptospernum fairly easy to get hold of or do I need to get one online somewhere?
