It's a creeping plant really. It throws out growth that begin to root when they touch the soil. Due to this it's simplicity to propagate and I recently done just this with some that only hadn't rooted yet but did so in only a couple of weeks. It's a lovely plant that flowers now and we get a few flowers later on as well. It was buzzing with bees all year really.
I like the pond edge idea and it was why I propagated as few more plants. It doesn't have to be in a shady position, ours came from our allotment neighbour who has it in blazing sunshine in really dry soil.
