Privet hedge

Will it harm a privet hedge if I cut off all the blackberries. There are hundreds of them.

    No
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

It would be much easier to give it another few weeks, when it has put on it's Spring growth, and then just trim the whole thing.  Are you worried about the berries being poisonous, to a dog, for example? If so, it's highly unlikely they would eat them.
  • Thank you for your reply. No its not that im afraid of animals eating them. There are loads if them i feel they will take the goodness from the hedge.

    They won't  :)
Surprising that the birds haven't had most of them though.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • That surprised me as well but they dig up the lawn instead to get the worms. 😁

If they're digging up the lawn, and it's mainly the crow family, it's leatherjackets they're after rather than worms  :)
