On a ridiculous train journey, going to take 5 hours with several stops.

It's one of the (many) places in the country that comes under the heading "Ah, well, if you want to go there, I wouldn't start from here."

    Happy Birthday, @WonkyWomble
( Also belated Happy Birthday to @didyw
     - If I don’t post immediately, I tend to forget, sorry )
Grey and damp here, but at least it’s warmer.
Sorry you are having such a tiresome journey @punkdoc
Slightly envious though. Salisbury is a favourite spot of mine, halfway to London by train, so I used to meet up there with friends and family, and spend the day sightseeing, shopping and having lunch. ( Great place called Greengages)
I don’t suppose you’ll see anything of the city though, presumably straight off to Porton Down.

    Afternoon all,

Happy Birthday @WonkyWomble, hope you don't get too wet and that OH is cooking for you tonight.

Wondered how you were going to get to Salisbury @punkdoc, don't envy you the journey. Salisbury holds a special place in my heart as my aunt and uncle ran a restaurant there when I was a young teenager and I stayed with them several times. I think it's still there. Hated having to wash up in the restaurant for my 'keep' though, no dishwashers in those days and my uncle was a tough taskmaster.

It's warmer but wetter with rain overnight (after I'd watered some of the pots of course!). Not done much again today as having a slight relapse which is annoying.

That cake looks absolutely scrumptious DD, wish mine looked like that.

Yes sadly,  unless your journey is something like London to Edinburgh,  most train trips now are very torturous affairs.  All those unnecessary branch line that were cut in the 60s. 😕  Hope your pupils are receptive @punkdoc

Quite true, but it's worse than that - even quite major destinations are difficult. If you want to go to Manchester, don't start from Exeter (I've tried it). It's actually quicker to go to London and out again (around 400 miles) than to try to go in a straight line from here (about 200 miles), especially if you need to be there before 10am.

Sorry - that post should be in the CC thread  :|

On the upside, my greenhouse has arrived  :)  It's in boxes in the shed, but it's here.

Calling all the cooks out there. We have friends coming to stay at the weekend and the husband can mostly only eat food that is easy to swallow. His wife has suggested mince is okay for one of the meals so I'm thinking a posh Cottage Pie with some red wine in it and perhaps grated cheese on top of the potato. Will that be ok?  Any other suggestions please? It will have be something easy, anything more than six ingredients makes my eyes glaze over and I go into panic mode!
