    Our three cats would love the gravel.
    I think to begin with I will scrape away the soil and look at the tarmac underneath. It may well be in such a state that I can remove enough of it to plant after revitalising the soil. We shall see.

    no such thing as a free lunch haha. I would go bark chippings, seating area, pots. We had a similar area under the eucaliptus,no tarmac though, Hubby built a raised bed. Something, free cheap, pallets, freecycle, take them apart, lay as wooden patio.
