    I've grown Dahlia merckii before now. From seed. Seems reasonably hardy but flowered so late in the summer that I decided it was not worth garden space.
    Might try D. imperealis next year.

    Dahlia Merckii isn’t a Tree Dahlia, but is a rather lovely species Dahlia. It is one of the hardiest of all of the Dahlias. Very easy from seed.
