Yucca.Is it normal to lose spikes? Also one spike is going brown. We moved to this property in Sept

    They aren't hardy everywhere in the UK, so damage is pretty normal over winter.  :)

    I assume you mean the foliage is browning, not a trunk? Again - perfectly normal, as with phormiums, cordylines etc . Just remove those right in at the main trunk. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Yes, they do tend to loose leaves as the years pass.
    In the Spring (when it arrives and stays this time !), you can tug off the brown lower leaves .

    I've just pulled all the dead leaves off the bottom of mine, exposing quite a chunky trunk.  Just make sure you have eye protection on as the points on the leaves are vicious.  Gauntlets are useful too.

    In terms of safety, you can snip off the sharp points - no detrimental effect to the plant :)
