You shouldn't use fresh manure,it's too acidic. Should be a year old.

Thanks, is dog urine on the grass clippings ok to use, it may happen sometimes?

Oh yes - no problems there.
My lawn is in a terrible state thanks to 20+ years of dog wee.
Still makes good compost though - with a little extra nitrogen from the dog wee :)

I would not touch horse manure there is too many nettles in it. We had 2 loads of well rotted farmyard ( cattle ) manure delivered last November. Put both loads in the bin at the top end of the allotment and kept it well covered. I have used some on my early potatoes this last few weeks and it is the best that I have ever had. Some fellow allotment growers have it delivered November time spread it out and then dig it in straight away.  By the time it comes to setting it has lost all its goodness but each to his own.

    Really?
The manure isn't gathered from a field. It's from stabled animals, who aren't normally fed nettles....
If you have nettles growing, it's because they've seeded into what is a nice medium for them to grow in.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
