Specimen / Stand alone shrubs

Recommendations please for nice specimen shrubs to stand alone rather than part of a border. 
Ideally white, pink or purple flowers and reasonably tough as we do get a bit of wind now and then.

    What is the aspect of the spot you are planning to plant in and what kind of soil do you have?  This will help to narrow down the options.

    Physocarpus Little Devil - It's a dwarf form of Physocarpus Diablo. Only gets to about one metre tall, lovely domed habit, with dramatic dark brown leaves, and small white flowers in Spring. Can be pruned quite hard every year, if needed.

    Shubby salvia Ping Pong has a great reputation. A big shrub which flowers all season long - about May to the frosts. Great for the bees. An eye catcher for sure. Cut back to the lowest green growth on the stems, once risk of frost has passed.

    Smoke bush, Cotinus coggygria makes a good specimem shrub.  Attractive round leaves in purple, green, red or orange, depending on the variety, and frothy white flowers that look like smoke.  I have three varieties in my garden.  You can keep them as multi-stemmed shrubs or allow them to grow on into tree like dimensions.
