weedkilling bare soil

Hi , i have removed a section of lawn & placed membrane fabric down on top ready to put down gravel, as i never treated the grass with weed killer before i lifted it, is there a weed killer i could use on top of the membrane that would kill the soil below before putting the gravel down . thanks in advance

Weed killer is for killing weeds. Spraying bare soil won't achieve anything.

You will always get weeds where you have a membrane. Over time a layer of dust develops in the gravel itself and some weeds are happy growing in that. Digging weeds up that are in gravel can also be difficult. There are weed killers that will treat weed seed but it is far to early in the season and then are only suitable for paths. People often think that this is the solution to a weed free area but mother nature will win out in the end.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

If you've removed the lawn, just put a decent layer of membrane down, then the gravel. You can't weedkill bare soil, as already said. It's not how they work  :)
Weeds will still seed into gravel though.

There are weedkillers that will stop anything germinating, but... you don't need anything like that, the entire point of the membrane is to stop anything growing through, you could put it down directly on the grass and it would stop it coming back.
As others have said you will still get weeds coming up when seeds blow onto the gravel but nothing you do now will stop that.
