Suggestions for planters on sunny wall

I have two large planters (70cm long, 50 width & height) along a sheltered, sunny wall. I would really appreciate suggestions for evergreen climbers or shrubs to grow up to at least 1.5-2metres? I was thinking about a passionflower in one and either a climbing rose or clematis in the other, but have seen discussions on here saying passionflowers are thugs. Thanks

@Aethelflaed99 There is a thread on the forum 'Tall plants for planter along NE facing wall'. Yes your aspect is different and your planters larger but many of the principles are the same. Clematis like a cool root run. @Marlorena may be able to help with a suitable rose but I think the height you wish to achieve might be an issue.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Trachelospermum Jasiminoides fits the bill. There is now also a pale yellow version too.
  • Thanks, @Borderline, I already have a Tracheospermum further along the garden but I think there are a couple of pink varieties I could grow.

@GardenerSuze - thanks,  I’ve taken a look at that thread and the plants are a bit shorter than I want, but actually helps me with another very similar problem.

Loads of clematis will be fine there, and in containers. The early ones - alpinas, macropetalas etc, and many Group 2s. Evergreen is more difficult, but there are some which flower in winter that might suit well.  Take a look at the specialist growers - Taylors, Thorncroft, Hawthornes.  :)

Shrubs might be more tricky for containers. You might have to experiment with those a bit if you want that size. Do they have to be evergreen?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Plenty of evergreen clematis will reach 2m easily: cartmannii and cirrhosa for instance. They like a sunny sheltered spot.
The problem in a container is keeping them moist enough - let them dry out and they drop their leaves. I've got a Pixie in a chimney pot and during a wet spell I realised it was in a rain shadow after it very quickly went crispy!
  • Thanks @mikeymustard - I’m not keen on Cirrhosa, but I’ll take a
    look at the cartmannii
  • I decided to go with the pink trachelospermum  - do you have any suggestions for underplanting it.
I'm still thinking about whether to grow a clematis or climbing rose in the other container. I've heard that roses have deep roots, so am not sure if it would go
