Mysterious hedge problem
Hello folks, I'm looking for a little advice. Last year one plant in a 20 year old Griselinia hedge died - leaves and stalks went yellow, then brown - then the entire plant seemed to dry out. No
life to it.
. I pruned back to see if new life would come from it but no joy. I've just noticed that the plant next to it is now going the same way - leaves paling from the lovely green that they are normally, some now yellow and some brown. Some stalks appearing to shrivel up. For the previous God knows how many years it's always been very healthy. In an attempt to revive it I've removed the original weed control fabric from around the base of the newly suffering plant (im thinking perhaps the fabric could have been holding too much water below it/or could have been preventing nutrients getting in?) and put plenty of compost on top around the roots. I've attached some photos - any advice much appreciated. Location is Northern Ireland.

It may be as @GardenerSuze says, just old age. Sometimes with nature you just can't tell.
Sorry l can't be of any further help. Fingers crossed that someone will know.
