Uneven sloping bumpy ground

We have very bumpy uneven ground that also slopes down to from right to left. If im
starting my garden design from scratch should I try to even it all out more? But if the right is fairly higher than the left side I would need to make a step wouldn’t I? Seems like a loooooot of work but is there an alternative?

We want to make a patio at one side as that gets the sun all day and then grass and planting areas.
