Dicksonia Antarctica has brown fuzz growing

Hi,

I have had my dicksonia antartica fern tree for a number of years now but this year when I’ve unwrapped it I’ve noticed clumps of what I can describe to be brown fuzz growing at both the crown of the trunk and the bottom. I have attached some images. I can’t seem to work out what it could be and if I should be worried. Has anybody come across this before?

I thought that's how they were supposed to look, but I've never grown one (it wouldn't be hardy enough here without a lot of fussing with winter protection).
Have a look at the pictures and video here and see what you think. https://www.burncoose.co.uk/site/content.cfm?ref=Dicksonia+antartica+-+Care+Guide.

That looks fine to me, they are just new aerial roots, that's how they grow. Now is a good time to give your fern a boost by drenching the trunk and crown with a diluted feed of seaweed extract, it will encourage new fronds to form.  Hope this helps.
